SICK Ultrasonic Flowmeter, a first for inline measurement in hygienic applications

0

The SICK Dosic® ultrasonic flowmeter has opened up the benefits of ultrasonic inline measurement for process engineering applications where stringent hygiene and corrosion resistance are essential.

Developed by SICK to have fully stainless steel wetted parts without in-channel seals or moving components, the Dosic® promises robust reliability, low maintenance and long service life for flow measurement in both conductive and non-conductive liquids, including demineralised water. Offering high-temperature resistance for stringent Clean-in-Place and Sterilisation-in-Place procedures, it carries full EHEDG certification and FDA conformity.

“The SICK Dosic® is a true innovation that has enabled us to provide reliable hygienic inline measurement of both conductive and non-conductive liquids for the first time,” says Darren Pratt, SICK (UK) industrial instrumentation specialist.  “With easy ‘plug and measure’ set up, the Dosic® can detect changes regardless of the medium and automatically adapt to them. Trialling in dairies, for example, has demonstrated that typical pumping/batching sequences of milk, cleaning fluids, water and cream can be interchanged without a need to change any settings in the sensor.”

“The SICK Dosic® is also ideal for large-scale batch pumping and dispensation. Being so compact – you can easily hold it in a single hand – it can be used for measurement on trolley-based mobile pumps, e.g. for transfer and vat filling. The rotatable display makes it easy to mount in any orientation, for convenience.”

Ideal for process applications in the food and beverage, pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries, the SICK Dosic® is also suitable for such duties as oil/water suspensions and emulsions, osmosis and filtering units, biodiesel and light and heavy oil pump metering duties.
The fully stainless steel 316L wetted part construction, without internal seals, has a very fine electro-polished, finish (Ra ≤ 0.8 μm) to ensure maximum cleanliness and minimum flow resistance and turbulence.

A range of analogue and digital outputs is included as standard that can be individually configured based on either liquid temperature or liquid flow measurement. Process data and diagnostics, can be visualised or communicated to higher level control systems or cloud based analytics via the integrated IO Link communication. The on-board LCD display features buttons for easy configuration and operational monitoring.

The SICK Dosic® is suitable for a wide range of duties with DN15 and DN25 diameters and a flow range between 0.5 l/min and 250 l/min. Pipeline connections are offered to comply with DIN32676 (clamp), DIN11851 (for milk and dairy), G and NPT threads.
The SICK Dosic® continuous process temperature capability ranges from 0 to +95oC, with resistance up to 143oC for up to 60 minutes, enabling C-I-P and S-I-P procedures as part of routine process cleaning. Process pressures from -0.5 to 16 bar ensure wide process compatibility.
